Quick summary
- Your transaction history is stored on your device. Monetrax has no server copy of it.
- You choose whether Monetrax can read supported transaction SMS.
- Some features send limited data to Google or to the Monetrax billing service: ads (free plan), purchase verification, receipt scanning, and Google Drive backup if you turn it on. Each is described below.
What Monetrax does
Monetrax helps you understand supported transaction SMS by turning them into a dashboard, reports, merchant summaries, budgets, alerts, and exportable records.
This Privacy Policy applies to the Monetrax app and the Monetrax website.
What information Monetrax uses
If you allow SMS access, Monetrax reads supported transaction messages and the details inside them, such as sender name or number, amount, date, reference, merchant name, and balance when those details are present.
The app also saves your preferences, such as dark mode, alerts, hidden totals, automatic scanning, biometric lock, and export protection settings.
What stays on your phone
Your transaction history and settings are stored on your device inside the app.
Monetrax does not upload your transaction history or SMS messages to a Monetrax server. The only copies that leave the phone are the ones you create through the backup, device-sync and export features below.
When information can leave your phone
Advertising (free plan). Monetrax shows ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers such as the advertising ID, IP address and ad-interaction data to serve and measure ads. Where required (for example in the EEA/UK), you are asked for consent through Google's consent form, and you can reset or limit the advertising ID in your Android settings. Premium users do not see ads.
Purchases. When you buy Premium, Google Play processes the payment. Monetrax's billing service receives the purchase token, product ID and app package name to verify the purchase with Google Play. It does not receive your card details or transaction history.
Receipt scanning. If you scan a receipt, the receipt image is sent to Google's Gemini service to read the merchant, amounts and tax details. Without your own API key the request passes through the Monetrax service, which also receives a random install identifier used only to enforce the daily free-scan limit. Images are not stored by Monetrax.
Google Drive backup (optional). If you connect Google Drive, a backup of your Monetrax data is stored in the app's private folder in your own Drive account. Monetrax cannot access it.
Device sync (optional). Moving data to a new phone over your local Wi-Fi sends it directly between your two devices. The transfer is encrypted and only the device that scanned the QR code can receive it.
Exports. PDF, Excel and full-backup files you export are saved to your phone's storage and may exist outside the app after you save or share them. If you set an export password, the file is saved as an AES-256 encrypted ZIP.
Your choices and controls
You can turn SMS access on or off through Android permissions, stop automatic scanning, turn alerts off, hide totals, use biometric protection, and add password protection to exports.
You can also review the original message behind a transaction and change categories when needed.
Retention and deletion
Data stays on your device until you clear app storage or uninstall Monetrax.
If you saved or shared exported files, you will need to delete those copies separately. Android backups may also restore some app data depending on your device settings.
Permissions Monetrax may request
These permissions support the app features people use every day.
